Our Pastured Poultry
The day-old chicks are brought to our farm from a local hatchery. Once old enough, they are placed out on pasture in a mobile chicken coop which is moved to a fresh location daily. They have free access to sun, shelter, water, locally grown grains, and pasture. The chickens are processed around 11 weeks of age and weigh 4 to 6 lbs. each.
Red Ranger chickens are a bird known for their bountiful portions of dark meat and incredible flavor. Unlike conventional cornish-cross chickens, these birds excel at foraging the diverse mixture of grasses, forbs, and insects in our pasture. You can see and taste the nutritional difference in the golden skin, moist meat, and the rich stock produced from these birds.

"I know I sound like a broken record, but a roast chicken from Johnson Family Pastures is one of the most delicious things. Meat candy." - Liz Gross
